HORSE RACING
Tho Auckland Herald lias the following about “Bink-’un undor silk”: —Messrs Prico and Nettlefold, who recently effected tho purchase of Pink-’un, gave tho Strowan gelding a chance on Tuesday last at Ricearton to quickly earn a good portion of tho large sum which it cost to buy him last month, the Great Easter Handicap being tho event selected for him in which to make his debut in tho colors of his now owners. The fact of his stable mate, Submarine, having been withdrawn that seemed to bo a reliable lead, and tho son of Strowan was sent out favorite. Tho followers of Pink-’un had tho mortification of seeing him whip in the field. The fact of Pink-’un being started in the Great Autumn HandicajJ would appear to point to his having furnished somo sort of a lino to his astute trainer that lie could compass 12
furlongs satisfactorily; but his first essay in public over a distance was not such as to inspire confidence in his staying capacity. Pink-’un has been a much boomod horse. It will be interesting to note if he wins back tho £I2OO which it cost to buy him last month.
