A COUNCIL BREEZE.
Tho transfer of Wadostown from tho Onslow Borough to Wellington City has not been accomplished without some turmoil. Cortain technicalities wero still uncompleted, but when the Onslow Borough Council met the two Wadostown mombors, Messrs Nash and Larkin, found that other members had closed up on to their soats, and tho Mayor (Air. R. B. AVilliams) ruled that they wore not councillors. They protested hotly against what tlioy callod the disfranchisement of Wadostown, nnd a violent scene ensued. They resented being called “Air.,” and when the Mayor threatened to summon tho police they dotted him to do so.
Tho Mayor: I’ll give you five minutes. AVhero is the telephone list? Air. Nash: Give us ten minutes if you like. You can’t shift us. Tho Mayor: You are what would bo characterised in law as a public nuisance ,and possibly as a justice of tho jioacc I could hand you over to the police. Mr. Larkin: It would cost more than you arc worth if you did. Air, Nash: I will consult my solicitor.
Tho Council thou went into committoe, and the Wadostown members withdrew.
It is understood matters of finance affecting both Onslow and Wadestown wero on for discussion, and the order papor contained a notice of motion by Mr. Larkin to rescind a recent resolution granting the Alayor an honorarium.
Air. Nash threatens to apply for a caveat, and contends that he is in office till the 24tli inst.
