CORRESPONDENCE
SEPARATE EDUCATION BOARD. To the Editor of the Gisborne Times. Sir,—As one ot fhe committee appointed to rejiort on the question of a separate Education Board for Poerty Bay, I wish to explain that I am not altogether in accord with the report as published in your issue of yesterday. Whilst agreeing that the revenue would bo sufficient, there would bo such a small margin to provide for contingencies that the Board would find a great difficulty in trying to satisfy the claims of school committees. But I am not convinced that separation would be in the best interests of education, and that th.> result would be as expressed by the Minister of Education in a recent reply to a communication from the local School Committees Association. Probably (indeed most inevitably) it. would mean straightened finances, little or no promotion for teachers, and in consequence eventually a poor choice of teachers for the district.—l am, etc., W. MORGAN.
