HOCKEY.

The following team lias been selected to represent the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey Club ■ against the visiting Napier team on Thursday: Misses Reynolds (captain),WoodbineJohnson, Slierratt (3), Goffc (2), Matthews (2), Sawyer, Waclismann; emergencies, Misses Osborne and Simson.

The only public attraction for tile holiday to-day is the opening of the hockey season, two games being set down for decision at Victoria Domain. Hockey is increasing in popularity throughout the colony, and has been given new life locally by tlie creation of a new basis of selection of teams. It wil Wherefore bo interesting to see to-day’s games as the first under the new system. A largo number of fresh players are included in tlio teams. On No. 1 ground Kia Kalia will play West End and City play To Ran on No. 2 ground. The teams are as follows: Ivia-Ivnha : Miller, Bright, Hansen, Bollock, Witty, Ivaiparu, Grant, Woodward, Willock, Garrett, J. Coleman; emergencies, Campbell, Doolan and Nicolas. West End: Wi Ollivcr, E. Roderick, Piric, Olsen, Glover, McLachlan, ■ Wills, Rico, Sim, Hooper; emergencies, Willis, Beams, Cao’- City: Doyle, Martin, Armstrong, Edwards, Wilson, Smith, Grinlinton, Bayly, Friar, H. Puflett, Rodgers; emergencies, Davy (2), Corbett. To Ran: Gormon, Wi Friday-, Brown, Hoke, Ellison, Buslincll. Allen, Hamilton, Dines, G. Buscke, Tanner; emergencies, Coleman, Pine, Hamlin. A charge of 6d for admission to the-ground is being made, ladies being admitted free. Play commences at 3 o’clock. • A mooting of tlio AVest End Hockey Club was held last evening. Mr. Olsen was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Air. Olsen was elected captain of the club in place of Air. Roderick, who lias left tlio district. , Mr.'Oliver was elected vicecaptain. Air. AlcLaolilan was elected delegate to the Hockey Association. Some routine business was also gone through, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
