CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. An inquest was held touching the death ot Rose Christina Mildred Owens, a young married woman, .who died in the hospital after sucking the heads of sixty phosphorous matches. The girl previous to marriage had been in Te Aorangi Home, and was of a peculiar disposition. A verdict of suicide whilst of unsound mind was returned. DUNEDIN, yesterday. At the inquest on Robert Douglas, aged 67, unmarried, who died in hospital as the result of injuries sus- - tained-owing to a cart passing over him on Monday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. PALMERSTON, last night.

A young man, Ernest Wheeler, was drowned in the Manawatu river hear Ashlnirst this afternoon. An inquest will be held to-morrow.

An inquest was held to-day touching the death of John Teeuey, a flax miller, who crushed one of his fingers in-a stripper at Kairanga on the 17th just. He underwent an operation for the removal of the. finger on Satupdav morning and died under cliloro- ; form. The verdict was that death was due to paralysis of the heart due to chloroform poisoning, every care being taken in its administration.
