BOROUGH BY-LAW UPHELD
Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, last night.
The judgment of Judge Cooper in the appeals by bookmakers against' the conviction in the Supreme Court for betting at the Christinas meeting was delivered to-day.. The principal ground for the appeal on law was the validity of the borough by-law to -prohibit betting. In an exhaustive judgment the Court held that the Borough Council had power by this by-law to prohibit the carrying on of the business of • hookma'king at all times upon the reserve and. therefore during race meetings. The appeal was dismissed with £7 7s costs against appellant.
