AUCKLAND, yesterday
A Maori chieftainess, Peti Herewini, sister of the late Major ie AVlieoro, was found drowned ■in a drain near Mercer.
A jockey named B. Towers was thrown while riding in the Maiden Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Saturday, and was removed to the hospital. Ho has not yet recovered consciousness, but it is not anticipated his injuries will result seriously. Alfrod King, storekeeper at Waitakerei, while serving a customer, fell behind the counter and died almost immediately. The causo was heart disease.
CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday.
A girl named Annie Witt was killed at Rotherham yesterday by falling over A cliff. Nothing further -’s to hand regarding the casualty.
