Tlio Hon. J. Carroll returns to Wellington by Sunday’s steamer. Mr. J. S. Waucliop lias been appointed headmaster of the Makauri school, and takes up his duties on July Ist. Mr. G( J. A. Johnston, clerk of the Magistrate’s Court, leaves next Wednesday oil holiday leave. He will bo relieved by 1114’. J- Dawson, of tho staff of tlio Hastings S.M. Court.

A Press Association message from Wanganui states that the Rev. A. !8. Wilson, of Perth, West Australia, has accepted a hearty and unanimous call to tlio pastorate of the Wanganui Baptist Church, lie is ex peeled to arrivo in August. An exceedingly pretty and interesting wedding took place at the residence of Mr. J. V*. Scott, l’alniorstonroad, yesterday, when Mr. Alfred Vowles, of Gisborne, was married to Miss Edith Scott, second daughter of Mr. J. V. Scott. Tho ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev. Griffin, was attended by a number of friends of both families. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a navy blue cloth costume, with hat to match. Tlie bride was attended by her sister, Miss Lily Scott, who was attired in a similar costume to that of tho bride. Mr. F. McLean occupied the position of best man. A large number of presents were received from the friends of both parties.
