THE WOOL SALES.
A SLIGHT DROP IN PRICES. The quarterly sale of the Gisborne Woolbrokers’ Association took place at tho Farmers’ Club rooms yestordav afternoon. The following buyers wore present:—Messrs. Arnold, Gisborne agent for M. F. Bourke; Kearsloy, - for Murgatroyd Bros., Auckland; Warnock, for Warnock Bros., Auckland; Donald, for Donald and Sons. Auckland; Watson, local buyer; Tidswoll, representing Nelson Bros.; Morrison, representing Gisborne Sheepfarnicrs’ Co.; W. 11. Smith, owner Makauri Scouring 'Works, and the representative of Andreae and Co., Wellington. A fairly largo catalogue was submitted for the off season, and the sale proceeded steadily from 2to 5 p.in, Messrs. Dnlgetv and Co. (Mr. A. S. Waclisman, auctioneer) opened the proceedings. They report:—We submitted a CiitaJogue comprising 1425 skins, 35 '"'bales wool, and 135 )h|des. From the start it was easily seen that in sympathy with the Home market last sales prices would be hardly maintained. Such proved the case, as all wools met" a decided drop of fully 5 per cent. Best fleece made 8d to 9d, according to conditiqi); crutchings, sid to did: lainbswqql, 7d to 8d; pieces, s)d to 6RI; dead wool, 7d. In sheepskins there was a drop of Jd per lb. Best wellsaved skins, made 7d to 73d, and in ono case 8d; lighter skins, 6d to 7d; broken and badly saved, 5d to Gd. Salted skins were unsaleable at anything near their market value, aiid one entry was withdrawn. Hides: Prices were disappointing. We had a good entry of factory hides, which we withdrew at 5Jd to 6Jd. We hope to get a slight advance on these figures privately. Station hides made '3jd to 4)d; bones made 3s per cwt; tallow, 16s to 18s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. submitted the next catalogue, Mr. J. 4V. Bright officiating as auctioneer.
Messrs. Common, Shelton, and Co. (Mr. Ingram as auctioneer) report that their catalogue comprised 44 bales of wool and a fairly large line of hides. Prices for wool were slightly easier than at last sale, and skins, for which there was little demand, showed a drop of from 3d to Id per lb. "Fleece wool sold from 7d to 9d, lambs 7d to BJd, crutchings Gid to 7d,.pieces 6ld to 7fd, locks 4Jd to sd, dead wool 7d, skins 44d to Bid, pelts 4d to GidMessrs. Bennett and Sherratt rel>ort: —We offered about 40 bales of wool, 1200 skins and 300 hides. Fleece brought up to 9ld, crutchings 6Jd to 7d, locks 4)d to 5Jd. Skins brought ms high as Sid for a good-saved line; the general run for station lines being Gid to 73d, inferior from sld. Two green skins brought the high price of 10s Gd; station hides from '4-id to SJ-d, freeing hides to 28s Gd; tallow in small lots to 20s per cwt. Mr. G. R. Wyllie auctioneered on behalf of the firm. Messrs, Williams and Kettle, who
offered their catalogue Inst, sin to that prices wore oil tho whole satißfnctory. The catalogue, included 88 hales and 41) bags of wool, 21 lots- of tallow, 1000 skins, and 554; hides. Wool : Good crossbred flcecd from 83u to 9Jd, cm tellings (id to 7d, pieces Od to 7d, doad wool 73d. to B*d. Bagged lines cleared at a fair figure. Skills: Good well-savod lots up to B.\d, green to 5s 3d. Hides: Station lots made from 4d to 5Jd. A good line of froezor ox hides, extra stout, realised 28s (id. Tallow: Station lots from 17s to 20s (id. Mr. G. R. AVyllio wielded tho hammer.
