Interesting information was given in the Auckland Supreme Court on Saturdav as to tho earnings of a direct liner' trading between New Zealand and London. Giving evidence in the claim Shaw-Savill Company against tho Auckland Harbor Boaid for £Io.O0(Wantages, in consequence -of tho accident to the steamer Mammi in the Calliope dock, Arthur Edwin Pearce, managing director of Levin and Cq., the well-known >\ellington agents for the Mamari, said the steamer’s gross freigliJ/ on the Home trip after the accident totalled £21,391.' The total cost of running the vessel on tho New Zealand coast was £5300. If tho vessel had been delayed tho whole of the homeward voyage the net loss would have been £12,350, but the detention was 11 davs, making the loss £7200. The s.s. Star of Australia, due from Sydney on AVednesday last, did not> arrive in Auckland till Saturday morning, having been delayed by violent easterly gales and tremendous sea. It was the worst gale the vessel has experienced out of 16 voyages across the Tasman Sea.
