HORSE RACING.
STKI'H’I.KCII ASK MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY. Genial sunny woathor on the second day clinched the success attendant on the Gisborne ltaeing Club’s stooplocliaso mooting. There was again a satisfactory attendance, and tho racing was equally ns good as on tho opening day. All through tho mooting tho jumping events wore well contested and marked by exciting finishes. Such exhibitions must tend to further popularise tho gnthoring. tip to the last race tho totalisator figures were about £IOOO bolow those of tho second day last yoar, and it was expected that thoro would bo a failing off. Speculation, however, was unexpectedly largo, and though there were only five runnors no less than £l2-15 was invested. Tho total for the day was £SOOI, as compared with £5060 last year. Tho total for tho mooting, £11,220, was £374 bolow that of last year. Following aro details of tho racing : D t \r , n n i \mxe A T>

start was somewhat straggling. Annoyed, Minetitnma, To ltalmi, . and Gladsnmir wore the most prominent in the early stages, Sarilla getting away badly. Hinetitama, Annoyed To Raimi, and Ladv Ainslio were all close at the tlirn into the straight, hut Sarilla shot up on the outside, and was first when heads wore turned for home. Annoyed and To Rahul pressing hard. Te Raliui mado a bold bid, but the Saracen mare landed past the post half a length to the good: Annoyed a. good third. Close behind the placed horses were Hinetitama. Lady Ainslio, and Gladsnmir, with Eone and Cantata in the rear. Time, lmin 35isec. Invested, £793; dividends. £G 15s and 14s. Clinton’s b in LAVINIA, aged, 11.1 (Fairbrotlior) 3 Also started : 49 —Cinque 9.2 (Barren). . . . , ~ Aqua Itegia s mission was evidently to make the pace hot from the start, and she led by several longtlis in the early stages, Bonomiaiia next, Lavinia and Cinque together a couple of lengths off. Cinque’s chance was lost through baulking at the hurdle round tlie outer turn. Along the back straight Aqua Regia led by three lengths from Bonomiaiia, Lavinia lying four lengths behind. Bonomiaiia joined Aqua Regia at the turn, Lavinia being now six lengths away, and making a determined but ineffectual attempt to catch up lost ground. A great set-to took place between the other pair for first honors, and the last hurdle was taken almost simultaneously, Bonomiana gaining half a length’s advantage. Aqua Regia was hard ridden up the straight, but was beaten comfortably by a length and a half, Lavinia four lengths away. Time, 3.58 4-5. Invested, £419: dividend, £3 12s. MAIDEN SCURRY HANDICAP, of 35 sovs; second 5 sovs. 5 furlongs. 165 —Mr. AY. F. Sinclair’s b m MURA AHI, bv Freedom, 9.9 (Malone) 1 171—Mr. Jno. Mclntosh), 382 —Kaumoana 9.8 (Reidy), 49 —Swordspeck 9.5 (F. Porter), and 34—Lady Cracksliot >.2 (Barron). There was a long and irritating delay at the post, owing to the eagerness of the jockeys to get well away. After several “breakaways,” in which ICaumoana was to the fore, a fair start was effected. Kaumoana did not find his legs very' quidkly in the actual race, Mura Ahi, Lady Ainslie, and Spate showing conspicuously in a bunched field at the turn. Lady Ainslie faded away approaching near the straight, where Reidy was plying whip and spur on the favorite. Mura Ahi was challenged by Spate and Pepita, but won handily by a length I from the former, Dr. Scott’s mare being only a neck away third. Time, J lmin Bsec. Invested, £1096; dividends, £4 9s and £1 Bs.

Hutana and Local Option flew the grandstand double neck and neck, clear of Silicia, Hikairoa and Lock Fyne in a cluster. There was no material change in positions for the next few furlongs, except that Loch Fyne came within striking distance. Silica was a,lso driven along but did not maintain the effort, Kanaka a dozen lengths behind tho field at this stage. Hikairoa and Loch Fyne drew away two or three lengths from the others, the latter being first over the hurdle into the straight. Hikairoa was unable to overtake tho Loch Ness gelding who won by a cotiolc of lengths. Silicia was a good third. Hutana four lengths away. Local Option tired towards the finish and finished in the rear with Kanaka. Time 5.27. Invested £799; dividends SECOND HACK HANDICAP, of 35 sovs; second 5 sovs. 1 mile. 130—Messrs. Joker dropped back at the entrance to tho straight, when Nestorean was upsides with Competition, the latter oil the rails, and hard ridden. The Nestor gelding came with a fine run and secured the judge’s eye a length and a half to the good, whilst Glen Afric just pipped Competition on the post for second money; Joker several lengths in the rear. Time, lmin 52 2-ssee. Invested, £725; dividend, £4 15s.

To Itinm and Borax were the only scratcliings. This was another stirring race, and only one horse came to grief, the jumping being a treat to watch. Morehau and Cinque escorted the field over the first part of the journev Vizier and Ivan being the rearguard. The field kept pretty close together, all taking the jump with precision, but the sod wall was Bullwortli’s “Waterloo. Lying in fourth place he was striding along freely, but bit the obstacle heavily and came to grief. Porter, his jockey, scrambled out of the road of the rear pair in agile fashion, and was unhurt. Morehau and Cinque continued at the head of affairs round the back, where the top weight moved up a little, Vizier and Ivan endeavoring to reduce the gap which separated them from the others. Ivan found the opposition a bit too warm, and was left in the rear, but Vizier overhauled the others, and at the last hurdle the four were nearly abreast. The editing finish was a tribute to the art of the kandicapper. Morpeth and Cinque fought for supremacy down the straight, the latter’s paep. giving her tho victory by a good length. Vizier, who dwelt at tho Inst obstacle, carno again, and pussod tho nost neck and neck with
Atorchnu, tho pair being closo on ■ Alorpoth’s girths. Ivan was a bad last. Time, 2.2 2-5. Invostod, £844; dividends, £5 13s and 16s. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of 60 sovs; second 10 sovs. 3 mih>527—Air. D.
