The Attorney-G onoral moved a motion similar to that passed in the other House changing the designation of the colony - to Dominion, it was carried on the voices. The South African Reciprocity Bill from tho other Chamber passed al: its stages. . ■ Mr. Barr resumed the debate on the Addrcss-in-Repiy, which was continu ed bv Mr. Georgo. Tho dobato was adjourned on the motion of Mr. Beelian. Mr. Scotland gave notice to move: “That in the opinion of tho Council the pay of members of that Chamber should be the same as that received by members of tho other House.” Tho Council roso at 5 p.m. :iO USE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The St. Andrew’s Church (Welling ton) Empowering Bill was read a se oml time. The 'Otaki and Porirua Trustees Empowering Bill was read a first time. The Gore Streets Bill war read a first time and referred to the Local Bills Committee. Tho Pure Food Bill was taken in committee. Clauses 7 to 11 were agreed to.
The House rose at 5.30 p.m. On resuming at 7.30 p.m. the House immediately went into Committee ol Ways and Means. The Premier delivered his Financial Statement proposals. It was agreed to report progress and the House rose. The Premier intimated that the debate on the Financial Statement would tako place on Tuesday night noxt.
