The sub-committee appointed foi the purpose of ascertaining the advisableness or otherwise of purchasing the five acres at Ivaiteratahi (offered by the Government at £25 per acre to local bodies) reported: “Your committee visited the localityon Thursday last and made an inspection of the shingle deposit. TV e are unanimously of opinion that, provided access to the river bed by means of the present siding of the Railway Department can be obtained, it is desirable that the five acres offered should be immediately purchased at the price quoted.” The Mayor said he was certain the Council would be acting wisely in securing an area of the‘land.
