MAN DROWNED AT SEA.
Press Association. DUNEDIN, yesterday. The schooner Wnratah, which left Lyttelton on the 12th inst for Dunedin, arrived on Sunday. She met with a succession of southerly and south-westerly gales throughout, with high confused seas. On Wednesday last, when the vessel was about 60 miles off the coast, abreast of Oamaru, a big wave enmc over the port side, washing the cook, named Joseph Hughes, overboard. The unfortunate ma i was seen lying in the water near the vessel apparently unconscious, as ho made no effort to grasp some timber thrown overboard, - which flowed within his reach. The vessel was breught round, and search was made, but no sign of Hughes was discovered. Hughes, who was about 30 years of age, leaves a widow and a family of seven in Sydney.
