TRAINING OF SCHOOL CADETS.
At tlic meeting of tlio Wellington Relocation Hoard on July 25th, Mr T. W. McDonald moved —•“’That in view of the fact that our public school cadets form a valuable recruiting ground for our volunteer force, it is very desirable that the training of the former should bo on the same lines as the latter, so that the branches may be made to form one homogeneous whole, and in order to brine tin.-, about the Education Departmen be asked to endeavor to arrange fo periodical conference with the Dt fence Department.” In moving hi pri position, Mr. McDonald said tha there was no reason why the tw. forces or systems should not be as similiated. Mr. A. W. Hogg second e-:l the motion, and agreed that tin course of instruction for the boy; should lie .along the lines of physica ins!ri|ction. He was satisfied, how over, that if the use of rifles wai abolished ill the schools parents woulc nor raise objection to military train ing. Mr. W. Allen thought the weapons now in use were as harmless as broomsticks. The snapping of n I cap was the limit of their fearsomelies?. ‘‘That’s all right, then,” said Mv Hogg. The Chairman (Air. Lee) sail the matter was important, and Mr McDonald was really taking a broader view of the cadet movement which might he used as a basis for military training. (Hear, hear.' 1 on! Lee thought that the Wellington Education Board should be proud of the part it had taken in: fostering the cadet movement, which she ulcl prove of great future value.. Replying. Air. AlcDonald said the motion did not commit the Board or the Department to anything, and; the suggestion did not interfere with! any existing regulations. The result would tend to minimise the accidents that resulted from the use of pearifles. The motion was adopted. j
