TEACHER’S INSTITUTE.
A large and representative meeting of the Teacher’s Institute was held in the High School on Saturday morning, the President, Mr. J. C. YVoodward, presiding. The official roport of the New Zealand Educational Institute for the year just completed lias been issued to members, and was discussed by those present. A motion that the entrance fee to the Institute be abolished was lost on the voices, members present being of the opinion that such an alteration was unnecessary. Mr. Kinder explained that owing to the nature of the constitution Mr. A. Cutlibert, who lias been an active member of the Institute since its initiation, and who lias acted as honorary auditor for this branch, must cease to 'he a member as he was no longer in the service, and moved that as a mark of recognition for liis services he ho elected an honorary life member of this Institute. Mr. Cole seconded the motion which lie said was hut a fitting tribute to one of the founders of the local branch. The motion was carried unanimously. A letter was received from Mr. R. B. Holmes, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Institute, explaining that the irregular delivery of the journal of Education seemed to be confined to the Gisborne district, and that he was taking steps to set this matter right. The recommendation preferred by this Institute that pupils attending schools in Poverty Bay in the Hawke’s Bay Education district may he entitled to - compoto for Queen’s Scholarships has been forwarded with approval to the YUctoria College Council. On the motion of Mr. Kinder seconded by Air. Colo it was unanimously agreed that Air. J. C. YVoodward be nominated as the delegate to represent this Institute at' the annual meeting of the N.Z.-Educa-tion Institute to be held in Auckland in January next 1 . . Air. F. J. Rowley, who is one of the non-official members will also he present.
