MADAME CARRENO.
All arrangements for the appearance in Gisborne of Madame Carreno on Friday next are now complete and local music lovers can look forward to an excejitlonal treat. When Carrono performed with orchestras in Melbourne and Sydney she received a fee of 75 guineas. In Syunoy she played two big concertos with the Amateur Orchestral Society with only one rehearsal. Notwithstanding her greatness she is a most unassuming artist, and the natience and goodwill she received while practising with the Sydney amateurs earnt the whole-souled gratitude of Signor Hazan, the conductor, who described he* as‘“an angel.” He told a friend that she was the sweetest-tempered artist he had ever met : yet the passion and virility she infuses into her playing is suggestive of the gigantic Rubinstein.
