REP. TRIAL MATCH
The trial match between the A and 13 teams took place on A r ictoria Domain yesterday afternoon in beautiful weather. There was a good attendance, and keen interest was taken in the game. The selectors, Messrs Martin, Pavitt, and Bushnell, were present. Hansen secured from the bullvoff, and turning to account the more than average turn of speed which he possesses, raced the ball into the A team’s territory, where Olsen saved by driving hard up the field. The A team commenced to attack hotly, and some fine form was shown by"-both teams. The A vanguard, Piue, Bright,’ Roderick, Gideon, and .Hooper, made the pace very fast, and Roderickgot m some pretty passing. From a irilhant rush Pine scored the first goal for the A team, and shortly afterwards Armstrong also scored 1 ! In the second spell the ball was kept liyiug from one end of the ground to the other, and Hooper added another to tiie A team’s score. The H team appeared to awaken, and from a determined rush M. Doyle notched a „oal for his side. Returning to the attack the B forwards again invaded net ttr itory h Pirie fo «nd the net with a well-directed drive. The A team retaliated, and Hooper added another goal Some very fine combination was then shown by the A forwards and the passing was a treat to witness. They gradually worked their way into the B’s quarters, and Armstrong scored his second goal, this made the score : A team 5 goals. B team 2. . The B’s made a desperate rally, and headed by Hansen. McLachlan, and Pine they carried the hall into the A circle, where Pirie landed a. neat goal. No further score resulted, the A team thus winning
by © goals to 3. For tho wmuois Edwards as gonl-keopor made few mistakes. Olsen and Friday were very safe at full. The halves, Willock, Armstrong, and Grant played well, especially Armstrong, who gave afino exhibition. The forwards played well together, and thoir passing was very good. For tho losers l’ettie (goalkeeper) was very safe and stopped anything that could ho stopped. Alartin and J. Doyle (full) boro tho brunt of tho attack, and proved themselves splendid on defence. The halves, Dines, Wilson and Friar, were very consistent, and passed well. Inc torwards all played well, Hansen being the most prominent. Air. Laurenson made an efficient referee. LADIES v. GENTLEMEN. This match, played at Victoria Domain yesterday, attracted a lot of attention and proved very interesting, tho gentlemen winning by 2 goals to nil. The ladies played with great determination, and deservo high praise for tho small score registered against them. There was no score in the first spell and in the second Dines and Dawson scored a goal each. Ino most prominent among the ladies were the Alisses Goffe (2), Sherratt (2), Alatthews and Sawyer. Bright, Hansen, Dines and Wills played well for tho gentlemen. Air. Pavitt refereed in his usual capable manner.
