ADVANCES TO SETTLERS

Special to Times. WELLINGTON, August 23. The annual report of this departments shews a record year for business, the applications numbering 2-1,000, and the amounts applied for £999 461. 'The advances actually granted, to 1920 applicants amounted to £767,730 which exceeds those of the previous year, also a record, by £l {;.p’ to 31 March last the net advances amounted to £5,V14,620. Classified according to provincial district's the total advances authorised to date are: —Auckland £1,385,1/3, Taranaki £1,228,619, Hawke’s Bay £296, 315 Wellington £1,601,078, Marlborough £226,605. Nelson £71,200. Westland £79,575, Canterbury £467,385, Otavo and Southland £1,222,930. The Advances to Workers Act shows the following results:—Auckland £9,515, Taranaki £ISOO, Hawke’s Bay £IOOO, Wellington £8,300, Marlborough £B3O, Nelson £225, Canterbury £5,050. Otago and Southland £2805; total £27,770. The Auditor General places his usual ‘‘tag” at the end of the balance sheet.
