ROTORUA TRAIN ACCIDENT.
THE INQUIRY ADJOURNED. THE POSITION OF WITNESSES. Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 25. The inquiry .into the circumstances surrounding the Rotorua train accident was resumed yesterday. The various railway employees concerned were called, and asked by Mr Kettle whether they got subpoenas before giving evidence. Several said they did, and Mr Kettle said subpoenas would be promptly served. In answer to the men Mr. Kettle said that itliey could have counsel to watch proceedings on their behalf. .Subject to this, the Court had the right ito order any of .the men concerned out of court during the proceedings. Taylor, one of ibhe drivers, said if that were done there would be no one to advise the men’s counsel on any point, and they would accordingly be at .a great disadvantage. Mr. Kettle saiid he did not see that. He Iliad no objection to any person not a witness sitting next the men’s counsel, on the understanding that the evidence was not communicated to anyone outside the court. ■Taylor saiid this meant that he and others would appear without counsel, as in the circumstances counsel would not act. This was unfair to the men. After a good deal of discussion on the point Air. Kettle said lie would adjourn the Court till Monday, to see wliat arrangements could be made.
