Yesterday the Gisborne ladies A team defeated a team from the Taruheru College by 4 goals to 3. >Mr. O. R. Olsen carried out the duties of referee. There will be a considerable 6tir in hockey circles during the next few days, and followers of this popular game will have several interesting matches to witness. The Clive ladies’ team arrived from Napier this morning, and will meet the local ladies in their first match at Victoria Domain on Thursday- afternoon, and on Saturday- a return match will take place. On Saturday- morning a men’s representative team from the Hawke’s Bay Association will arrive, and try conclusions with the local representatives the same afternoon. As the local ladies have not yet suffered- defeat at the hands of any outside club, the games should attract good attendances.

The Clive (Napier) ladies, who arrive by the Talune this morning, play a match at Victoria Domain with the Gisborne High School girls. To-mor-row afternoon they meet the Gisborne hockey team, and on Saturday afternoon a return match between the same teams will be played. The men’s representative team play a team of other players to-morrow afternoon, and on Saturday they- play the Hawke’s Bay representative team. 'CLIVE LADIES’ TEAM. Special to Times. The " team should give a good account of themselves, as they have made a close bid for the premier position in the ladies’ competition this been beaten in only two -ames, once b- the Huia team, the winners of the championship this y-ear, and once by the .Woodford House team, last y-ear’s 'champions, though they" beat tlie latter team twice, their last victory having been gained on Saturday last, when they put up tho excellent score of 5 to nil against Woodford House. Their score during tho season has been 22 goals for and 4 a-ainst them.
