LONDON WOOL MARKET. A HOPEFUL REPORT. The N.Z. L. and M. A.'Co. has received the following cablegram from Lonpdon, dated 18th inst.:—“We think a rise is likely to take place in following wool : Merino, fine crossbred about- 5 p.c. Tone of market is firmer for coarse cross-bred.” MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. The weather conditions were excellent for the fortnightly sale at Matawhero yesterday, and there was a good attendance of tlie public. SHEEP. The yarding of sheep was not a large one, and there was again, a keen demand. This was particularly die cas 0 in regard to hoggets, which realised exceptionally good prices. Fat wethers brought from 20s to 255; fat ewes from 15s to 19s 3d; store hoggets from. 13s to 16s lOd; ewes with lambs from 19s to 225; dr) ewes from 7s 6d to 12s 9d,

The principal sales were: —5 fat* wetliers at 245,“ 177 at 22s 6d, 235 at '2os, 16 at 1&0s, 24 fat ewes at, 19s 3d, 13 at 19s, 36 at 15s, 222 forward hoggets at 16s lOd, 71 at 16s 3d, 69 at 16s 3d, 199 at 13s lOd, 91 at 13s 9d, 80 at 13s, 286 ewes and lambs at 225, 42 at 19s 6d, 34 ewes in lamb .at 16s. CATTLE.

There was a rather better supply o cattle than of late, with a small proportion showing beef quality. For these competition was very keen, and steers in good condition brought up to £7 15s, whilst light heifers realised up to £6 10s. There 'were a few pens of likely-looking young 6teers, and these were readily disposed of at prices ranging from £3 12s 6d to £4 15s. Calves and yearlings brought from 22s to 2os.

Dairy cattle were represented by odd lots of inferior quality, and although the majority changed hands owners had to be content with low prices. Springing heifers realised from £2 10s to £3 10s, cows in calf £2 10s to £4, and cows in milk from £2 7s 6d io £4.

The sales included :—5 fat steers at £7 15s, 12 at £6 12s 6d to £7 2s 6d, 6 at £5 7s 6d, 3 fat heifers at £6 10s, 24 young steers at £3 12s 6d to £4 Los. 13 at £4 15s, 13 calves at 245, 10 at 225, 6 cows at £2 7s 6d. PIGS. There was an exceptionally large entry of pigs, the number hiving been materially added to by a line brought from Nuhaka. These consisted of young stores of nondescript breed, looking somewhat the worse for their long and arduous trip. However, ,tihe demand was keen, and they were eagerly snapped up at prices satisfactory to the owner. Baconers brought from 29s to 45b, choppers up to £2 10s, porkers 255. Medium-sized stores realised from 20s to 255, breeding sows £1 10s fo £3.

HORSES. A few horses wero submitted for sale, and the following changed hands: —2-year-old brown gelding at Cl 3, 3-year-old chestnut mare at £32, gelding at £l3, 3-year-old irongrey gelding by Bluo Peter front a Crackshot miro at £25 10s. Amongst the animals unsold was Mr. .T. Campbell’s 3-year-old draught stallion Young Blairgowrie, which was passed in at £SO.
