To THE HONORABLE THE SPEAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENT VTIVES IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED, the Humble Petition of the undersigned Residents of the Harbor District ot Gisborne, showetli — 1. That your petitioners, in common with the great majority of the residents in this Harbor Distinct, are desirous that the question of the building of a deep-sea harbor at Gjsborne shall bo submitted to the vote of the ratepayers here without delay. 2. That your petitioners have seen with regret that the Local Bills Committee have recommended the postponement of the consideration of the “Gisborne Harbor Bill” until the next session of Parliament. 3. That the promoters of the Bill do not request any assistance from tlio Government or Parliament of the colony, but are quite content to pay for the construction of the outer harbor at Gisborne, if the legal majority of the ratepayers in this ilistrict require such construction. 4. That your petitioners are aware that certain amendments and alterations have been made in the jjroposed Bill. 5. That your petitioners aver that there is a widespread feeling in this district in favor of the construction of an outer harbor at Gisborno, if such a work can be accomplished without placing too heavy a burden upon the shoulders of the ratepayers, which must be decided by the ratepayers themselves. . WHEREFORE YOUR PETITIONERS PRAY that your Honorable House will be pleased to pass the “Gisborne Harbor Bill” as amended, as soon as it will suit the convenience of Parliament, in order that the question of constructing an outer harbor here may be at once submitted to tlio ratepayers for their decision. And your petitioners will ever pray. Mr. Grahame Johnstone is authorised to -obtain signatures to tlio above petition.
