SOME HIGH RATES. Special to Times. WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. A return showing the amount of mortgages registered from Ist April, 1906, to 31st March, 1907, shows the following results: —Auckland, £1,673,620 ; Poverty Bay, £501,035 ; Hawke’s Bay, £1,446,904; Taranaki, £101,044; Wellington, £4,722,847; Marlborough, £334,306; Nelson, £271,697 ; Canterbury, £3,264,724; Otago, £847,880; Southland, £694,464; Westland, £35,007.' As much as £78,303 was lent at 10 per cent, £1617 at 12 per cent, £1778 at 12! per cent, £2OO at 14 per cent, £4952 at 15 per cent, £3731 iat 20 per cent, £350 at 26 per cent, and £2OO at 40 per cent. The mortgages released in each province for the same period were :—Auckland, £970,870; Poverty Bay, £256,980; Hawke’s Bay, £882,936; Taranaki, £740,772; Wellington, £2,823,370; Marlborough, £138,641; Nelson, £171,810; ' Canterbury, £1,912,834; Otago, £609,236; Southland, £502,028 • Westland, £33,045; total, £9,043,122.
