WAIHIRERE BLOCK.
SCENIC RESERVE AY ANTED. The Cook County Council notified the Borough Council last evening that it had lately approached tho Lands Department with a view to securing a portion of the Va ill iror© block for the purpose of a scenic reserve and public park. A reply had been received to tho effect that if tho Borough and County Councils would lead tho public in the matter of providing, say, half of tho estimated cost of the land required, then tile Government would bo prepared to assist in the purchase and reservation of tho land for the purposes of a park. Tho Alinister of Lands laid stress upon the fact that other towns had made similar requests. to this, and had in most cases provided half the cost of tho land.. It was desired that the Borough. Council should appoint representatives on a joint committee, and bring the matter before the public in a tangible form. The Alayor moved that Crs. Mann, Bright,' and AVliinray ,be a committee to confer with the County .Council.— Carried.
