THE SHORTAGE OF GRAIN

Press Association.

AUCKLAND, Oct, 1-i. The masted- bakers have decided to increase tlio price of bread to *ld toi the 21b loaf as .from .this morning.. Tho president of the association states that the increase was unavoidable, owing; to the advancing iprice of flour, which rose on Friday and Saturday, until southern Hour now costs between £l2 10s .and £l3 a ton, while it ,is also probable that a further .increase will take place during tho week. The price of wheat* he states, has also .increased, and holders will not sell except at the 'highest figure, the supplies being very limited, and almost* nil the mills being short of grain.

FLOUR RAISED BY £1

DUNEDIN, Oct. 14

Owing to a further advance in the local wheat market the price of flour lias been advanced £1 per ton. It is not likely that the .increase will entail a rise in' the price of bread.
