Tlio first annual convention of Australasian Press Association was held to-day. It was decided to urge the formation of an association in each State on the lines of the New South Wales Association, to fix scale of advertising, promote the interests of members relating to cable and telegraphic services, and other matters of usual concern. A long discussion took place on the proposal to establish an independent cable service. A committee was appointed to further discuss the project. It was resolved to urge the Federal Government, to invite 25 editors from Britain, Canada, and Cape Colony to visit Australia at the expense of the Commonwealth. The opinion was expressed that this was one of the best -ways to advertise Australia. It was also resolved to ask the railway administration to grant press rates similar to New Zealand. The next- convention meets in Melbourne next year.
