ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
Press Association. NELSON, Oct. 27. On Saturday afternoon an eight-year-old son of Constable Tonkin was drowned at the port. The boy was seen playing on the beach near the wharves, and a little over an hour later his body was found at high water mark. It is supposed that the boy slipped or was blown from the boat landing near where he was found. An additional distressing circumstance was that Constable Tonkin was informed a body had been found, and it was only when he went to recover the same that he found it ■was his own son. At an inquest the same evening a verdict of “found drowned” was returned AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. A seven-year-old boy, the son of Dr. H. Cox, whilst riding a pony in a paddock at Mangere, fell from the saddle, his foot remaining in the stirrup. He was dragged on the ground and died soon after. Dr. Cox lost a younger son two years ago through the lad falling from a vehicle. WELLINGTON, Oot. 28. A carpenter named Thomas Dnillot, a recent arrival from Guernsey, fell about 35ft to-day, while working on the new Commercial Hotel. Ho had an arm broken and a shoulder dislocated, while it is feared he is also injured internally.
