' * WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. In the House this afternoon, Ministers stated, in reply to questions that it was intended to allow the House this session to deal with a proposed amending Friendly Societies Act; that it is not intended to set up another Royal Commission to inquire into old soldiers’ claims m the Dominion ; that the question of acting in conjunction with the Commonwealth Government with a view of making representations to tho Imperial Government as to tho expediency ot opening up negotiations with a view to tho acquisition of the islands or Tahiti and New Caledonia, is under consideration. . 'At a meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labor Council to-night ■it was decided “to urge the Government to grapple with our flour supplies by nationalising that industry, and also to urge tho Government to grow sufficient wheat for the use or tho people of New'Zealand.”
