FIRES.
Press Association. GORE, Nov. 1. A fire broke out to-day whereby Wlayte’s dairy factory at. O-tamita was destroyed. A north-west gale was raging, and nothing wus saved. About £SO worth of cheese (uninsured) was also destroyed. The factory was insured in tho State office for £7O. It is thought that a spark from the boiler fire was blown amongst the firewood and caused tho disaster. A YOUTHFUL “STARLIGHT.” . LED ASTRAY. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. A youth of 10, named William Crombie, lias been arrested on the charge of assaulting Richard Clarke, a settler, of Drury, with intent to rob him. Ho is alleged to have culled on the latter and demanded money, producing a revolver. Mr. Clarke closed with him and secured tho revolver. Crombie then decamped. Ho was also wanted on the charge of having stolen a horse at Helensv-ille, and of having assaulted a lady at Newmarket railway bridge, where lie also presented a revolver. Crombie recent!v witnessed an animated picture depicting the life of the bush-ranger Starlight, and this -seems to have made an impression on his youthful mind, and to have fired him' with ambition to emulate his deeds.
