ROWING. P.B. CLUB.
A general meeting of the Poverty Bay Club was held at til© club shed oil Monday evening. Mr. J. Webb, captain, occupied the cihair. A letter was received from the Hon. J. Carroll accepting tiho position of patron, and enclosing a donation. —Acknowledged with thanks. Mr. H. J. Grieve, of Gisborne, as a supporter of rowing, wrote offering to donate a cun for competition, in. sculling championship events between the two Gisborne dul)3. He remarked: —“I am given to understand there has been no single sculling champion shir) between the two clubs for the last few' seasons, and I think it would create a good deal of interest amongst members and -the public, as, since AV. Webb’s victory, sculling has come to the foro in New Zealand.” Mr. Grieve suggested that conditions he fixed jointly by delegates from each club, his personal view being that the oontest should be an annual one, and the Cup not won outright. The club favored the Cup becoming the property of the sculler who wins' it three times in succession or four times at intervals. Messrs. J. Webb, A. Kirk, and A. M. Orpwood, aiptain, secretary, and assistant secretary respectively, were appointed to meet the Gisborne Club’s delegates to discuss conditions. .Rules for the government of the club were submitted and approved, with a few' minor amendments. The meeting decided to change the club’s colors to green and white stripes, but the alteration will not take effect till next season: Presß Association. WANGANUI, November 12. A second deposit of T2OO m the Webb-Tresidder sculling race was put up by Webb t<o-day, Tresidder’s money will he dosposited with the editor of the Sydney Referee. CRICKET. CRICKET ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Poverty - Bay Cricket Association was held lasi, evening at the British Empire hotel, Mr. W. Gibson presiding. A letter was received from the Hawke’s Bay Association, suggesting December 30th and 31st and January Ist as dates for a rep. match.—A reply will be sent that these dates are suitablo. Mr. A. Fenton advised the Association as to the class of mower required for keeping the pitch in order. —The ground commitee was empowered to procure a machine of rile type suggested by Sir. Fenton, who is to be thanked for his advice. Mr. Cary’s resignation from the ground committee having been refered back to him for reconsideration, he consented to the expressed wish of his colleagues to remain on the committee. .
' The Motu Cricket Club wrote suggesting December 12th, 13th, and 14th as dates for matches against local elevens. —These dates for the country team’s trip were approved. The Tokomaru C.C. desired the Association to fix three days about Christmas time for matches.—lt was deckled to reply that the Association will be pleased to arrange fixtures, but asking the Tokomaru Club to suggest the dates most suitable to them.
On the suggestion, of Mr. Cary, it was decided to provide lockers, in the Domain pavilion, to be let to the Clubs; also to endeavor to secure from the Rugby Union the use of the. pavilion under the grandstand, with , the right of using the shower hath. Mr. Maude brought up the question of charging ground fees to local players in connection with the matches against visiting teams. After discussion tlio matter was left over till next meeting for decision.

(Received Nov. 13, 0.41 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 12. Apologue, tho Melbourne Cup winner, lias beeiv sold for 1500 guineas, and goes to India. Cuniiform passed in at 210 guineas. Subterranean is suffering from pneumonia, and even if he recovers is unlikely to race again.
