Press Association. HAWER-A, Nov. 18. Thomas John Keueally, aged 40, afarmer of Otakeho, whilst milking y-esterdav, was killed by a kick on tlie head from a cow. NELSON. Nov. 18.
An elderly lady named Mrs. Eliza Pidgeon dropped dead in Selwyn Place this afternoon. Tho cause of death was heart failure. Deceased was a very old resident of tlie city-. DUNEDIN, Nov. 18.
At the inquest to-day on the body of Herman Louis Saaclitler, 19 years of age, evidence w-as given that deceased with six other lads went camping at Purakimui on the 9tli inst. On the 11th inst. tlio campers luad two tins of salmon for breakfast, and tho same evening returned to town. On Wednesday evening deceased complained of abdominal cramp, and seined to bo suffering from bacterial poisoning. On’ Friday lie was- suffering from incessant vomiting, severe abdominal pains, cramp, diarrhoea, cold sweats, anuria, and collapse, and ho died on Saturday morning. Fifty hours elapsed from tho taking of tfie fish and tho symptoms of bacterial intestinal infection. Dr. Roberts, who made the post mortem, said there was only a remote possibility of connection between the baking of. tinned fish and tho cause of death, as the intervening period was too long. Death was due to bacterial intestinal infection, bub ■it was difficult to assign the cause. Dr. Falconer, hospital surgeon, said cases had been recorded where 43 hours had elapsed before the symptoms -appeared, blit he did not know of la longer period. A verdict was returned that death, was duo from bacterial poisoning, there not being sufficient evidence to show tlie cause •of tho poisoning.
