PAWNING OF STOLEN ARTICLES.
P 'ess Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. Edward J. Leydon, a letter-car-rier in the employ of tlio Generali Post Office, Wel'liLngton, was charged' before Air. Riddell, S.AI., to-day with* steii'liimg' a postal packet - containing a ring and brooch, valued at £3. Chief Detective MeGiratfli conducted the prosecution, and Air. P. Jackson appeared for tike x»risonor. The evidence called went to show, that a ring and a brooch, which were posted by Donald Douglas, watchmaker, to Afiss Cliatfield, Island Bay, did not reach tiheir destination. The ring was S'ubsequ'S'ntly pawned by Daniel Wheeler, laborer, for who was living a.t the same house as AV'lieeler in Courtenay place. Accused told him to give the name of Aloore. Air. Jackson stated that the defence would he .reserved. Accused was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Air. Jackson asked that the accused siluouJd be brought up for trial a.t tine present- sittings. His Worship said the -Court -bad no jurisdiction in the matter. Bail was allowed in Hie sum of £SO and two sureties of £25 each.
