Press Association. DUNEDIN, Nov. 20. At -the- Police Court, Donald Morrison, licensee of the Marine hotel, Port Chalmers, was fined £5 and costs on a charge of permitting dcunkemuess on his premises. Geo. J. O. Smart, who reserved his defence, Iras been committed for •ffi ial on a charge of theft of 20s-, the proi>erty of the State Fire Insurance Department-, • of which lie was manager. A second charge is now prcieeee-diiig. At tlio Police Court G. J. V. Smart was committed for trial on a coeo-nd ehurge of having on or about August 17th, 1906, stolen a cheque ter £l4 Is 4d, the property of the ijtato Fire Insurance Department. Evidence was given by Patrick T'reaihy, Nga-para, that he paid accused the amount stated for insurance, and Departmental officials deposed that a cheque for the sum had ■been cashed by accused, but that there was no record of the insurance having been effected. At till© Supreme Court to-day, John Ir-eson and Grace Hutcdiieson were jointly charged with, the forgery of a promissory note for £24, purporting to be by Dahliei Hmtchieson, husband of the female accused. Ireson (lodged at ELuteMeson’s house, and the female accused sent hint to pay a bill for £2 10s at iveoteven'a, a money lender. Ireson came back, saying site _ would have to sign a bill of sale, which sine d!fougilt was a receipt. She signed, but got no money. Tlhe_ jury found a verdict of guilty against Iresotn, who got min© months. Thomas Robert o’Callaghan was charged with ,iihteniptcd arson. The case is proceeding. Ait the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Robert o’Callaghan was acquitted on a chlarge of arson. Wiliam, Fred Eibortand, convicted of entering with intent to commit a crime, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. At the Supreme Court ‘to-day Robert Humphries, aged 63 years, was sentenced to three years’ imprisone nicailt on a charge oif indecent assaiulit o-n a- littfe girl. At tlie Supremo Court to-dViy Frederick Nicolous was found guilty of forgery and uttering and obtaining goods by false pretences. Ho was remanded till to-morrow for sentence. Emily Holland, a domestic servant, charged with forging the name, of her employer to a. cheque for £2 10s, was found not guilty.
