WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. , James Maoallion, oji a charge of assault, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment. At the Supremo Court to-day two lads named Crank Carroll and frailcis Lyons, charged with setting- tire to a budding in Tara iraki-streeit, were found guilty, with a. recommendation of mercy, 'llhcy were re- ■ uianded for sentence. DUNEDIN, Nov. 20. Alexander Ramsay, at the Supremo Cotirt this morning, charged on seven counts with the theft oi moneys belonging to- Wilson Eraser and' Co., at Milton, was found guilty on the second count of stealing £7 on February 2nd. Sentence was deferred. ' Tlio jury disagreed oil the remaining counts. DUNEDIN, Nov. 26. At the Supreme Court to-day Jas. Nicholson, Albert Churuside, and George Wilson were charged with damaging an hotel at Evans Fl'at with intent to annoy the licensee. At iho conclusion of tlio case for the Crown His Honor pointed out that thero was very little of anything to connect Cliurnsido and Wilson with tlio offence, and the jury agreeing with this view, these accused were discharged. In Nicholson’s case an alibi was set up, but the jury found him guilty on the .count. Sentence was deferred.
Frederick Thomas Dart pleaded guilty to obtaining two suits of clothes by means of false pretpnees, and was admitted to probation for 12 months, and ordered to pay the costs of the legal proceedings, also to abstain from intoxicating liquors during the term of his probation. Edward Ernest Massey was charged with setting fire to a sofa and a chair in a shop at lyaikoura, knowing the building was likely to take fire, his intention being to defraud. The case was unfinished when the Court rose.
At the Police Court to-day John Henry Ayers, aged 24, pleaded guilty to a. charge of using obscene language and assaulting a boy. Evidence showed that accused was under the influence of liquor, and that the language complained of was used In the presence of young girls. Accused was fined £lO with costs 12s lor using obscene language, and £1 with costs for the assault-, the alternatives being four and one month’s imprisonment respectively.
