At tho thirty-second annual meeting of tlio Union (Steamship Company yesterday a dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum was declared, with a bonus of 2 per cent from the insurance f.un-d. Brigadier Albiston (officer in charge of tlio North Island, and Brigadier Bray, in charge of tho social work ip Australasia) to-day inspected,alternative sites for the Salvation Army Boys’ Homo. The site chosen is an ideal one, being within two miles of the' town and commanding a magnificent view. It consists of ten -acres, fronting tiie Mang-awhare road, with a sunny aspect. A ridge runs up the centre, on top- of which tlio home will be built. The land is rich, and there is water on both sides. .PALMERSTON. A conference last evening between representatives of the employers and employees in the dairy factory workers’ dispute was productive of no satisfactory results, and the case co-mes before the Arbitration Cbunt in Marchl -It is understood that Mr Pryor, who conducted the case for the Flax-millers’ Association in the Arbitration .Court, will, appear on behalf of the employers in this, matter. WELLINGTON. Tlio Italian Consul to-day handed Captain Oashnian, of the rt earner Karitane, -a medal, presented by 'the Italian Government, hi recognition of the bravery displayed by tbe captain when on the s.s.
