PROHIBITION IN AMERICA. RAPID AND WIDESPREAD TRIUMPHS. LIQUOR PAPERS FURIOUS. THE editors of the liquor Press of the United States are greatly alarmed at the victory of Prohibition in Georgia, and the general trend of Temperance legislation. ‘'BEVERAGES,” tho official organ of the National Liquor League of America, published in New York, in a leading editorial, August 2nd, 1907, on “Prohibition in Georgia,” declares that “Tho result in Georgia presents no pleasant outlook for any. section of the business. We dislike to acknowledge it, but we really believe THE ENTIRE BUSINESS ALL OVER HAS OVERSTAYED ITS OPPORTUNITY TO PROTECT ITSELF AGAINST THE ONWARD MARCH OF PROHIBITION, which in some sections of the country is advancing like a. prairie fire, with not a hanu raised to stop its progress. For years we have sounded the warning of the impending storm. For years we have argued for organisation, and for yeais we have in season and out of season pleaded for unity, harmony, and cooperation among all branches of the business, but all effort on our part, and on the part of others, has resulted in no good. Five years ago a united industry might have kept back the situation that now confronts it, but to-day it is too late. WE MIGHT AS WELL TRY TO KEEP OUT THE HUDSON RIVER WITH A WHISK BROOM.” Tho. most widely ‘known and read liquor paper is doubtless the “BAR AND BUFFET.” In a leading article, August 16th, 1907, under the astonishing heading, “What Must We Do to be Saved ”it says: Georgia has gone dry. Another great State has placed the ban upon the liquor traffic. Furthermore, those who profess to be able to read ‘the handwriting on the wall’ say. that all the rest of the Southern States will follow suit. That is the condition that confronts us. There is no theory about it. It is an undeniable and concrete fact. THE PROHIBITIONISTS ARE GAINING GROUND STEADILY AND RAPIDLY. PROHIBITION IS NO LONGER A REMOTE POSSIBILITY, BUT A MENACING PROBABILITY. THE MOVEMENT IS GATHERING STRENGTH LIKE A PRAIRIE FIRE, AND SPREADING ALMOST AS FAST AND RELENTLESSLY.” n (Advt.) C.P.
