People’s Day at the Taranaki Show was completely spoiled by heavy rain, which set in eanly in the morning, and continued till about 4 o’clock. Only about 2000 country visitors attended. Mr. Brenner’s Lord Erskino easily annexed the Clydesdale stallion championship. The.parade of stock was abandoned, but the competitions avere successfully carried through without mishap. OAMAEU. The police last night raided .Boland’s .Papakaio hotel, and Seized two cases of whisky, which were found in an outhouse. A prosecution will follow. WELLINGTON. In accordance with a recommendation of a majority of th e .unions, tiho Cabinet lias appointed Mr. J. A. McCullough, late of the Addington railway workshops, the workers’ representative on the Arbitration Court. The appointment is to date from Ist January next, in order to enablo Mr. R. Slater, who at present represents the labor unions; to assist in completing the cases upon which he is already engaged. Mr. W. T. Young, of Wellington, secretary of the federated Seamen’s ynion of Australasia, secured a majority of the nominations of the unions as deputy representative of the workers, and the Cabinet has ‘appointed him to that .position. Mr. S. Brown, of Wellington, was the only, one nominated as the employers’ representative, and he has been reappointed. Mr. W. Pryor, Parliamentary secretary of the N.Z. Employers’ Federation, has been .appointed deputy employers’ representative. The salary of the employers’ •representative and of the workers’ representative is £SOO each per annum,. with £1 per client travelling expenses. The .Postmaster-General has approved of the design for the new general nost office to be erected in Wellington. The design is classic. Renaissance, and is intended foMie executed in . granite or other New Zealand stone, with steel, frame, fire proof .and earthquake resisting construction. The cast of the new building fs estimated at about £85,000. It is expected that, the office will be one of'th'e most imposing in the .Dominion.
