FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29. (Before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) Drunkenness. —William MoGee, on a charge of .drunkenness was .convicted and lined 10s with is costs, in default 48 hours .imprisonment. Discharging Firearms. —David Nelson pleaded guilty .to a charge of discharging .a .firearm within the Borough. to eve 11 days wore allowed him to .pay a line of 10s costs 7s. Failing to Close Shop.—Richard (Stephen Chilton, grocer, was charged witn committing a ■ broach of (the Shops and Offices Act by failing to close his establishment at. 1 u.'in. on the statutory half-holiday. J.'he information was laid iby Constable Tbit, who was proceeding ito give evidence when Mr Stock (for cleiendant) suggested tl.vvt his. 'Worship should ask the' informant ii .lie were an inspector under the Act. This was done nml the constable .replied in the, j negative. Procuring Liquor.—Alfred James Nicholas Weston was charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order against him. Accused pleaded guilty .and ■ was fined £5, costs 7s, in default 30 days imprisonment . .Fourteen days were .allowed in which .to pay the fine.—Martin Henry McLouglilin to a similar charge pleaded nos, .guilty. Constable Scott deposed that on 23rd hist at 10.10 p.m. he saw defendant and Weston walking along Gladstone road; defendant carrying something under his coat. Witness, watched .the men go 'down Disraeli street, where defendant banded a bottle to Weston, who had a: drink, •after which defendant also hafl a drink. When accosted by witness, defendant threw the bottle in thread. Witness picked i.t up and found .it to contain beer. At first defendant .gave witness -a .false name, but afterwards his right name. In •reply to• his Worship, defendant admitted being lit present under (pro-hibition,;-bub stated .that on his .wayhome that alight he found the .bottle of beer .under a tree in Gladstone load. His Worship imposed a fine of £5, costs 7s, in default '3O .days hard labor in Napier gaol. Supplying liquor to prohibited person.—McLoughlin was further charged. with supplying liquor -to AVeston, knowing him to b e a prohibited person. Defendant again plead,cd not guilty, and Constable Scott repeated- his former evidence. Evidence was also given by the Clerk of tlie Court as to Weston’s prohibition order being still in -force. Defendant was fined £3 costs 7s, in default 21 days’ imprisonment in Napier Gaol. An application for time to pay was refused by His Worship, who remarked .that 'from defendant’s behaviour, ho was satisfied that he, defendant, knew perfectly well Weston was still under prohibition when he supplied him with liquor.. ,
