PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. MEETING OF SOCIETY. A meeting of the Society for tW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was lielcl -in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Col. T. W. Porter, president, was in the chair. The Chairman explained that although Mr. ThelwaU. had been appointed secretary, Mrs. Porter would still take a good deal of interest in tlio Society. Mr. Thelwall would keep a report book at the County Council office, where matters needing remedy could be entered. This report book was open both to members and non-members. Mr. Thelwall, inspector, said since the Society had been formed several small matters had come under, his notice, but he had managed to fix them, up without having resource to tlio police. He had fixed up matters of horses being worked with sore shoulders, and old horsey turned out to die. Ho had also seen into the fact of drovers’ dogs being left without water. A member asked if the abattoir was being properly conducted. Mrs. DcJbautour suggested that the Borough Council be asked to tmt in a number of troughs for horses when putting in tlio water to the town. There should also be a number of troughs for dogs, and there was a certain amount of water at the Sievwright Memorial Fountain which could be so used. Mesdames Cliatterton, DeLautour, Walker, and Porter were appointed an executive committee to deal with important matters.
