RIFLE-SHOOTING.

A BRITISH EXPERT’S OPINION. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 10. Colonels Hopton and Cowan and Alajor Gouldsmith, of the British rifle team, are now in Auckland. They spend six week touring the Dominion. Colonel Hopton, who was commandant of the team, interviewed, said that in Australia lie found a great many more men in comparison to the population with a knowledge of rifle-shooting than at Home. He was also of opinion that tho average cb'ionial shoots as well, if not better, than Home riflemen. He regarded the New Zealand team’s performances in the Empire match as highly creditable. He thought it probable the New Zealanders found the weather conditions at Randwick as different as the Britishers did. It was by sheer pertinacity right up to the last shot that the New Zealand team rail into second place.
