PERSONAL.
Mr Alfred East, of the 'Wellington Training College, is at present on a. holiday visit to Gisborne. Mr. Heal'd, stationm aster, who has been spending his vacation up the East Coast, returned south by the Waikare yesterday evening. Mr. H. J. Clayton, until lately manager of the Daumevirko branch of the N.Z. Clothing Factory, arrived ini Gisborne by the Zealandfa on Saturday anorning. Mr,,Clayton ia to manage Mr. J. W. Cook’s mercery business. ■
Mr. G. Ivemp, Telegraph Sub-In-spector, who has been in Gisborne in connection with the Motu telephone line, left for Wellington by the Wavkaro last night. 'Mr. iH. F. Jones, who has been connected with tho literary staff of the Gisborne Times for the past e’ght or nine months, left by the Waikare yesterday evening for Napier, en route for Western Australia. ' A Press Association telegram from Wanganui states that Mr ACf Bayly, the well-known footballer, died yesterday, aged 41 years, and that Mrs. McGregor, of “Auclimore,” one of the oldest and best-known settlers in tlio district, passed away yesterday at the ago of 91 years In consequence of the resignation of Mr J. Coom, chief engineer for working railways, Mr J. Burnett, inspecting engineer, will be promoted to tho vaciut position. Mr Coom’s retirement does not take place until March 31st, but lie has been given three months’ leave of absence. He will therefore cease work at- the New Year. Mr F. McLean, District Engineer at Dunedin, succeeds Mr Burnett as inspecting engineer. The following transfers hr connection with the local Post and Telegraph office have been effected:—Mr. Miller goes to Carterton, being relieved by Mr. IV. J. Jackson, of Taihape; Mr. B. :P. Lenihan, from Oamnru, relieves Mr. 'D. 'R. Boyd, resigned ; and Mr. F. Auld, 'from Hustings, comes as an addition to the staff. 'Messrs. Auld. iLen.ihan, and Jackson arrived by the Zealandia on Saturday, and (Mr. ißoyd left by tho Waikare last evening.
