RIFLE-SHOOTING.
GISBORNE RIFLES. Sixteen members of the Gisborne Rifles competed in a handicap match fired on Saturday for a set of carvers presented by ex-Sergeant Cave. The conditions were 7 shots, with optional sightcr, at 500, 600, and 700 yards. The atmosphere was very smoky, and made good shooting impossible, tho targets at times being almost out of sight. Corporal Lyford and Private Whitlock fired from scratch, it being a condition that those entering late, should not be handicapped, bet they would certainly have get handicaps if their entries had been in time. Difficulty was experienced in fixing the handicaps, as many of the competitors have never previously shot over the ranges, and therefore there was no past form to reckon on. Fcfllowing are the scores (the handicap being given in parentheses):— ' 500 600 700
