MR. KEIR HAKDIE.

[To the Editor.] Sir, —It seems incomprehensible that after the alleged disloyal statements made by iveir Hardie had been disproved, and proved to be the invention of the enemy, and admitted on all shies to be a press exaggeration, that a tin-pot resolution passed iby a tin-pot Council should receive recognition at the hands of the Cook Countv Council. Yet. the fact remains that a'couple of the Councillors nearly ‘'chucked a seven” in their feverish desire to practically acclaim themselves as the “loyal saviors” of tins far off-shoot of the Mother country. In this connection, 1 venture to say there are manv ways of showing loyalty without resorting to .hypocrisy. To' the credit of Captain Tucker, he it- said, he sat on the proposal that Mr. Iveir Hardie should he condemnoil unheard, anti ho scouted the idea as un-British. Without -dwelling on tliis subject further, 1 venture to think that -little episodes like tins will tend to make the fair-minded people of this fair land recognise that it is just about time they took control of the social system themselves, and censed to allow the town to be run by would-be financiers —for their own selfish interests. —I am, etc., Gisborne, Dec. 20.
