THE DRUCE CASE. AIRS. BAILEY CROSS-EXAMINED EVIDENCE AS TO DRUCE’S BEARD. AUTHOR OF THE MOCK * FUNERAL STORY. BODY TO BE EXHUAIED AFTER CHRISTMAS. United Press Association—Copyright (Received Dec. .22, 4,59 p.m.) ( LONDON, Dec. 21. Catherine Bailey, in cross-examina-tion, said that Druce, by whom she was employed for many years, always shaved bis beard in earlier years, and he had no moustache after having shaved. Witness, when shown tho largo photograph number 7 of tho alleged Druce-l’ortland photographs with side whiskers, recognised it as Druee’s, and said that she had one similar to it taken Hater. She also bad another, taken three years before be died, showing him with full beard and moustache.
She had hoard silly, gossiping people talk about a mock funeral. Asked when she first heard the story, witness replied :—“I suppose when Druce was supposed to die or did die.”
Witness further stated that between 1848 rand 1864 Druce never slept at his residence unless the family accompanied him. She and Dr. Shaw were present when the body was placed in the coffin.
To Air. Plowden, witness said that she attributed the mock funeral story to Anna Alaria Druce, the original claimant.
Further hearing was adjourned tiU January 6th. • All preliminaries in connection with the opening of the Druce grave at Highgate cemetery have been settled, but tlio exhumation of the remains will not tako place until after Christmas.
