CAMERA OBSCURA.
[To the Editor.] Sir.—On the dawn of the New 5 emit might be as well to draw the attention of the (Borough C’ouiicil to the evesore to residents ol the . Camera Obscura.” True, the Council are to iret the magniticent sum of 10 per cent on the takings, (whether gross or net does not matter), yet they cannot provide the decent and neeessaiy accommodation tor the public. Ihe public urinal was a blot on the lanusc ilie, and was removed to comply with the request of the Beautifying Association. , Now wo have a building, practically on the same spot, which is neither use nor ornament. It. is ar<ruecl that tho exhibit is educational and will do good. Ido not think so, except to th(' parties interested. Have the Councillors who voted lor tho erection, returned tile complimentary tickets so kindly donated bv the management, or are they bolding on for the cheap show. It is about time some action is taken, and wit.i that object in view, it is proposed to ask alt and sundry, especially Haiti ratepayers and others, to sign a. petition to tilt' Council, to cancel the privilege which has been granted. Tho expense, if any, should tail upon the Borough Council for any outlay that has been made by the proprietors of the show, vet to allow the same to continue to the annoyance of tlie ratepayers is not to be thought of. Other places are to he obtained outside the jurisdiction of the Council, where the exhibit could have.been shown, and private enterprise would liavo benefited, instead <>t a public body chipping in outside ol its ordinary functions. Residents subscribed certain moneys which were subsidised h.v the Council to beautify the river bank. How do the fathers reconcile the ‘‘beauty spot ’ just erected. It is about it]) to tho local administrators to acknowledge that they have made a mist ike and arrange that the “Camera Obscura shall lie .removed to another spot, which will not offend the eyes of the resident.—l VKII.(fisbornc.
