OUR BOWLERS.
Though just failing to land tho coveted honor at Auckland, tho representatives of tho Gisborne Club have certainly jYut up a record ol which they have every right to lie proud. To go through such .a tournament, mooting tho crack teams of the Dominion, and sustain but one defeat, is an 'achievement which will stand to the credit of tho town. The man who is an enthusiast over his recreations, and a keen sportsman to boot, is usually an alert business man and a sound friend, and judged by this standard the Gisborne record in Auckland is particularly satisfactory. It shows that our bowlers take the gamo seriously, and have spared no pains to attain a proficiency superior to that of most of the opposition. Bowling lias a peculiar fascination for all who participate therein, and in many respects it possesses advantages over other games. This is notiooably tho caso in regard to the social clement, for the very character of tho game appears to promolo good fellowship and camaraderie amongst tho players to an extent- not attained in other pastimes. It >s naturally -somewhat galling to have been counted out in tho lust match, but someone has to lose, and we are able to congratulate Carlton upon having secured a highly meritorious win and our own .representatives upa having made -a valiant fight ior tho honor of tho town and district.
