THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

GRADER FOR POVERTY BAY AY ANTED. Speaking to a “Times” reporter yesterday morning, Air AV. D. Lysnar referred to the -necessity of haying a butter grader for Gisborne. Ou tne 19th of October last, the Napier Harbor Board wrote p. rsoiiallv -to -him that- they were contemplating the erection of a cool -torago chamber and desiring to know if lie would take advantage of it and support them. On ilia 15th November, Mr Lysnar replii d that it would not be of any advantage to him if a grader was appointed ,at Napier so that the butter could be put on the steamers at Napier. Me did not, know how the matter siood at present or what action the Board had taken. At present the butter is sent- to Auckland for. grading, railed to Onehunga and shipped t o Wellington. It would be useless to have cool -storage without a grader. —That would be no gain to the district. It would be satisfacfactory. however, if a grader was appoint d for Hawke’s Bay -and Gisborn< —that would- bo -a solution of the difficulty. IE this were done, it would mean a difference of id per lb. considering the knocking about—not in actual cost—but it might bo left in the van or delayed and then be classified as second grade. They had tried sending it to AYellington from here, but it was too long out if a cool -store and if a boat was delayed, at Napier, the position was serious. It was somewhat late now in the season to take action in the matter, but it might be as well to see tho Hon Air McNah on tho subject. Ho said be would see the Kia Ora. Dairy factory directors and ascertain if" they would join in a deputation to the Minister.
