GLADYS BROWN’S DEATH.

THE INQUEST. An Inquest- was hold at her parent’s residence boforo tho Coroner, Mr W. A. Barton, yostorday afternoon, touching tho death of Gladys Margaret Brown. Detective Muddoni represented tho police. The following jury was empanelled: Messrs G. G. Shiovlaw, (foreman), W. Hall, T. E. Fnrloy, M. Doherty, G. Johnstone and J. W. Bull. Juno Brown, wile of William Charles Brown, bullock-driver, mid mother of tho child, stated that on •Monday morning about half past ton, die took the girl, aged live, mul four other children to tiio riverlmiik for a picnic and while there, they wero plnui.ng maize. At about half past two. she missed the girl and called for her, hut received no answer. Sho (hen walked along the riverbank and saw a hat floating on the river. Sho could see nothing of her daughter, hut noticed a place close to the water as if something had slipped in. Witness then went to a neighbor, .Miss Moore, who advised her to telephone to the police. Accordingly, she M-nt a son over the river to Mr Tansley’s house and used tho telephone. Constable Irwin deposed that at. a quarter to two on Monday afternoon, he proceeded to the scene, where ho was informed that, a child had boon drowned in tho river. Tie dived in and found the body and brought it to shore where he made Cjfory effort at resuscitation, hut life was lound to be extinct. There wero no marks of violence on tho body. There was a depth of about 12 feet where tho body was found. The jury returned a verdict of “accidentally drowned.”
