BUSH FIRES AT MOTU.
The news was received in town yesterday that Mr AV. B. Orr’s sevenroomed residence at- the Motu was destroyed by fire and Mr and Mrs l)rr had to erect temporary accommodation ciose by. Miss Valla iSiinson, sister of Mrs Orr. is staying with Mr Wright-. All their effects wero lost. The insurances were, house, £250 -in tbs Commercial Union and furniture, £350 in the same office. Last Friday Mr. AA'. D. S. McDonald’s place at AYliakarau was in danger for some time, and necessitated the household keeping a- keen lookout ail night. The wind was nor’-west, and this endangered the house, but afterwards an easterly gale blew, and the peril was averted, and now things ' are practically safe. The wind has now died down. Mr. McDonald, ;-een in town yesterday, stated that he had no further particulars, as the fire had interfered with telephonic communication past his place.
